Dream Chaser
by Sherrilyn Kenyon
The world of Greek Gods and Dark Hunters returns under the guise of the Dream Hunters. There’s a dangerous bad-boy type (with leather an everything), a “normal” girl (of course she’s not all THAT normal, otherwise what chance would she have with afore mentioned bad boy), very brief walk on roles by familiar faces and introduction of a secondary character I really would like to see more of. (The parish coroner)
Xypher (bad-boy) has a second chance. But he’s intent on blowing his reprieve from Tartarus on getting revenge. Of course the baddies are already a step ahead of him.
Enter “helpless” female. She needs saving. Reluctantly, Xypher falls into the trap that ultimately makes married me of bad boys (don’t we wish this really happened) and is “attached” to Simone Dubois, a ME from Tulane University. There’s mayhem, chases, immortals, and even some Charonte demons. Unfortunetly we don’t see Simi.
I want a Simi book. Who will she eat? I mean meet?
Writing: There’s the usual back and forth between filming locations going on as there are in almost all the Dark Hunter novels. I wish SK would cut that out. Enough back story. Enough world building. It’s getting so complicated with Greek gods, Sumerian gods, Atlantean gods, Dream Hunters, Dark Hunters…demons. ARGH! Looses points for poor pacing. I’m tired of it. 6
Characters: This pair were much more engaging than the last book’s pair…what was their names? BUT Simone…hum. I can’t say why her history is TOO convenient, it just is. 6.5
Plot: From heart-stopping near misses to the requisite kisses this tale doesn’t let you down. 8
Ending: The last good book in this world was Seize the Night, when someone TRULY DIED. It’s become way too easy for Archeron to swoop down and make everyone’s boo-boo’s better. Time for some smack-down I say! Ok, back to this book. Big fight, scary situation, HEA.
6.7
Overall: It’s really a great romance novel. But maybe the genre’s not enough for me anymore. 6.8
